| | | Advice on where to live Hi all, looking for a bit of help really. In process of applying for a job in HK and am likely to be over in about 3 weeks to scope areas out.
Been recommended to look in Discovery Bay, Tung Chung and Gold Coast. Being as would be working from home and doing a lot of international travel, somewhere with easy access to the airport would be good. Budget is up to 10K a month and would ideally like somewhere furnished. Would rather not flat share.
Looking for any comments on the areas I have listed or other options to consider. Plus any good property agent's sites would be much appreciated.

| | | I guess Tung Chung should be most convenient for the airport. I am also considering that area. I just got an offer last week and probably will be in HK Sep-Oct. A colleague of mine who was from HK told me that many people going to the airport take the tube to Tung Chung and get on a bus to the airport, as it is much cheaper than the airport express. | |

| | | For 10K and close to the airport you can choose Tung Chung or Tsing Yi. You can get a bigger flat in Tung Chung with your budget (~1000 sq. ft. in Tung Chung vs. ~800 sq. ft. in Tsing Yi), while living in Tsing Yi will save you 15 mins and $10 per trip by MTR. | |

| | | Thanks guys. I thought Tung Chung made sense in terms of convenience in getting to the airport but it just looks stuck a ways out. And to be honest, costs in getting to the airport aren't an issue as 99% of the time I'm heading there will be on business and my company will pick up the tab.
Reason I liked the look of DB was the ease of getting to HK island by ferry but also looks pretty easy to get to the airport. Plus from stuff I have read on this and other sites it sounds a bit more laid back than central HK but also quite well developed in terms of amenities. Not to mention the lure of a 27 hole golf course...

| | | yeah, we;'ve got a golf course... but you need to be a member and i believe that sets you back about $7000/month....
but DB is great! real community feeing . easy to get into town, but really nice and quiet when you get off the ferry coming home!
i've been in hk for 11+ years and in Db for the past 5.5( i think)...would not want to live anywhere else...but i warn you, if you don't like kids or dogs, don't move to DB!

| | | Hmmm, not sure my budget stretches to 7K a month on golf...
Thanks for the info carang, being as I would be moving on my own somewhere with a lot of expats and a community feeling sounds good. Pretty much decided to look in DB or Tung Chung (which doesn't look quite as nice but I would get more flat for my money...) Anyone recommend anywhere else to scope out on the mainland? Not going to have a huge amount of time, just need to get a general feel for the place.

| | What about Park Island? It has a resort feel. But it could be a hassle to travel to the airport. Think you have to catch the airport express to Tsingyi and then catch the shuttle bus. There's no cars on Park Island

| | | If you don't mind commuting for 20-30 min also consider tseung kwan o, there are many new developments in tseung kwan o station and tiu keng leng station, moreover there are many shopping malls and restaurants and prices for everyday items are cheaper than in DB or Central. | |
