HK Computer Forensics

Hey Guys,

Do any of you know what the situation is like in relation to computer forensics/IT Security?

I am coming to the end of my current post and am looking to relocate. I am presently managing Computer Forensics for a 'Large' organisation and apart from MCP am fully qualified to expert level in use of EnCase and also hold service qualifications in high level security work and IT security.

Any help would be appreciated.

Doesn't sound terribly developed out here. A friend who did his MSc in computer forensics in the UK is moving back there to get into a more developed industry.

Expatriate has pissed of a few people
There are some professional organizations. But the industry is not terribly interested. I talked to some police guys and they said the most computer crimes in Hong Kong involve stealing of weapons and characters for online games.

i'm in the IT security field... i went to a conference one time by Cisco here in hkg and when the keynote speaker asked how many people had a dedicated security admin in their company, i'd guess only about 1% of the crowd raised their hands... or maybe even less

shocking, bet they don't have disaster recovery procedures in place either.

Hmmm could well be a business opportunity there you know!

HK companies are not all that interested in security or DR. If course, the big ibanks would have good systems, but that's more because they have international expectations to adhere to. AFAIK, there are no DR provisions mandated by the stock exchange (unlike the US and UK), so small financial firms might not even have decent backup procedures.
