That stuff is called "espresso" and, as Italian, I think it's even too much what they put inside. PC and Starbucks espresso should be called "espresso lungo". We also have "normale" and "ristretto" (just a sip).
Real espresso should be served in a small cup, should have a thick brown foam, so, when you add sugar it has to stand up for a couple of seconds ant then fall. The consistency is quite oily. The content of caffeine of espresso is the lowest compared to other kind of coffees.
No Starbucks in Italy. Wonder why?
