is there anywhere in particular that is known to sell mobile phones much cheaper than everywhere else?

probably Mong Kok, on Argyle St, on the way to KCR. Big centre with hundreds of shops selling mobiles new and old. Seen some for under $100, obvioulsy very old. Can't remember English name but in Chinese it's called 先達廣場.

You should check out Apliu St. in Sham Shui Po... that street is well known for cell phones/electronics. In fact, that's where I got my mobile. Just make sure you check out all the stores (and there are A LOT! -- both sides of the street) before making a decision. And usually they will have 2 prices... one with and one without warranty, but since it's not too big of a difference, it's better to play it safe and pay a little more for the warranty. Good luck.
