Hi,
I was born in HK and only breifly stayed there before moving to UK. I am currently a British Citizen who now wish to move to HK to take up work.

Am I entitled to Right to Abode/Land status just by virtual of being born in HK?

I think that if my parent were "Chinese" then i would have no problems, but they are not.
Any advise would be grateful

I was born in 1979 Emigra.

After some research myself, i have found some info that suggests if a person looses his right to abode(e.g being absent from HK for more than 36 months) he automatically aquires that right to land status(which is more or less the same).

How i think this relates to me? I had RTA status when i was born there, but have lost it since i left HK. But now pending my return I should (in theory) be able to claim RTL status.

I am a British Citizen and by virtue of my parents being born in HK. I applied and gained a HK permanent ID in 1998. My HK ID has the Right of Abode and has 3 stars. I was born in 1979.

I have just been offered a job in HK and will be taking up my position in June 04. My only question is will I lose my Right of Abode due to the fact that I have not been back to Hk for 6 yrs. If so will i need to obtain a work permit. I have discussed this with the firm in HK and they assure me that I do not require one.

it seems that you will lose Right to Abode status...but no don't worry, you should be able to claim Right to Land Status, which means the same thing as RTA.

Not sure what the requirements are to re-gain RTA status, but at the very least you should be able to freely work with RTL status.
