| | found an apartment ($6800) in one and a half day Just to share my experience with you guys.
I need move and start work in Hong Kong early August. Housing is always big issue in Hong KongBut budget is not too high (monthly rental range 5500 ~ 7500). This website is very helpful. After some research, I decided these options: Kennedy Town, Sheung Wan.
Sheung Wan is convenient and close to MTR. but I checked it out, smelly in a lot of streets because selling dried seafood etc. And for my budget, very few options. Esp not much chance for newly decorated places.
Then checked Kennedy Town. At least it is residential friendly places. Convenient for daily shopping, su ch as pack N shop, etc. A lot of buses near by. About 20 minutes to Central Landmark Building during non-peak hours by bus. (actually, if you take metro, going down and up the station will take some time already)
For that range, a lot of places available in Kennedy Town. (but don't expect Merton or Mahatton (?) High) Merton should be no less than 9000. MH should be even higher. )
But most places in Hong Kong are not provided with complete set of furniture and electronic appliances, such as refrigerator or TV. (of course, such as Merton or MH, I heard they should provide that.
After viewing more than 10 apartments, I put in a deposit of a two-bed room apartment on 30th floor, so at least have nice mountain view. All fully furnished and everything is provided. Very tidy and everything is quite new. I can virtually move in with a suitcase. Price is 6800 (including management and gov't fees). Locations is sort of close to Merton. With McDonal and another big name Chinese food chain store and Park N Shop just near by, so you can imagine it is a good location. Bus stop is like 2-3 minutes away.
I feel if you on a limited budget, avoid big name like Merton or MH, you can still find good quality apartment, at least in Kennedy Town
BTW, I started looking for apartment from 11 am yesterday, and the contract is signed at 1:00 pm. Not bad
Hope that help. | |

| | the size is about 500 square feet. Room size is small by foreign standard (i ever stayed in US and AU and China). But from all the apartment I ever viewed, I found that rooms are just tiny in HK. So, the size of this two bedroom apartment is good enough for one person
I mean this www.geoexpat.com website is good.
BTW, before I found this place, I also check Empire Studio. From discussion here, it should be better than W Studio. But even the largest size room ($9000) they offer, it doesn't look that good. Hard to imagine staying there for one month. That is why I decide better just find an apartment directly.

Welcome to Kennedy Town. I am staying in Smithfield Terrace. Very near the Mac and Park N Shop. Guess you should be around the corner as well.

| | | hi,
empirestudio.biz looks very attractive in terms of pricing and location. Can anyone, please advise if the studios are clean, quiet, easily acessible from the streets? We are on holiday, I'm only renting it for 5 days but bringing my folks along (whose over 60yrs). Thanks.
