MPF exemption rule

There is an exemption clause for contribution towards people who have retirement, pension, provident fund etc outside HK. I have a CPF account in Singapore which will not have any contribution while I am working in HK. (This is because I will not have any Singapore employer during this period). Will this mean I am in the exempt category?

I don';t think so - I think you have to show that you are continuing to invest in an overseas pension fund while employed in Hong Kong. So I guess you will have to contribute to MPF. You can get you contributions (+/- any growth) back when you leave Hong Kong. (Strictly you can only do this the first time you leave HK - if you then come back a second time you are locked in to MPF.)

You get less 1K a month? In that case, won't it make more sense for you to put it into MPF and then get it refunded to you when you leave?

It does. But my university also wish to save a few pennies if it can.
