driving instructor (private)

So my driving hasn't been going well. I can't get used to driving on the 'other' side and the traffic rules are driving me insane. I've been driving for almost 10 years prior and still can't get used to the roads.

I am thinking of hiring a private driving instructor, any help appriciated. Suggestions or reference.

Just get out there, do it and get shouted at a few times, that's what I did! Otherwise ask a mate who knows the roads to go for a few drives with you.
Also, get one of those A-Z type books. They're ringbound bi-lingual books which are worth their weight in bird's nests when you're stuck in the middle Ng Tai Wherever and you're stuck on a one way going the wrong way!

Driving 10 years abroad, not HK need to learn the roads here, I have a car that I, let's just say, wouldn't want to 'practice' with if you know what I mean.

I'm sure there are local instructor.

1) Are they qualified? or just like in china, some guy with a car claims to be a taxi driver. Have you tried the service?

2) Used to have...can't import into HK because of emission and 'other' laws.

cerberus is an unknown quantity at this point.
first time driving in HK was a horror...kept ending on the far left, bumping into things, losing parts of the car...you're not alone.

however, the rules here are pretty similar to anywhere, and finding your way isn't too bad, at worst you won't go very far off course. the main challenge is field of vision and "feeling" the car.

good idea tho, looking at driving instruction. i suggest a formal school, may cost more, but psychologically will make you more confident.

bvasilis is on a distinguished road
good driving instructor

If you are still looking for a private instructor, I highly recommend Peter Lau that advertises in Dollarsaver. He is a very positive instructor, to the point and encouriging! I had 10 lessons with Raymond Fund from City Driving School but although he wasn't shouting at me he was always grumpy and had never anything nice to say. I failed the parking test afterwards.

Last Tuesday I went and did the parking test again, had 1 lesson with Peter Lau and he was very reassuring, positive, thought me what was needed and mainly gave me confidence to pass the test. That being said he will teach you how to feel comfortable on the road and how to become a confident driver. I highly recommend Peter, he is really good! He will actually tell you when you do well not only what you did wrong. His number is 9096 2079.
