i am using the router at my home. need to make the connection secure. Any idea what settings needs to be change.

More details required - e.g. make/model, are you using wifi or just cables/ethernet?

In the case of wireless, as a minimum:
- ensure you have the latest firmware
- change the default admin password
- enable WEP encryption

Optional if you are paranoid:
- limit access to your known list of MAC addresses
