| | | Hair Cut for Curly Hair? Despite the fact that this humidity is actually making my hair shorter...(ahh!)... I'm still looking for any good suggestions for where to get a hair cut if you have really curly hair?
Thanks! | |

| | | Laura...this is so not the place to get a haircut if you have curly hair. I cut my own..I had no choice but to learn!
The other alternative is either pot luck with local salons or fancy-shmancy international hairdressers. The latter are expensive and might mess you up anyway. Curly hair is in style in HK now! I just shaved all of mine off, though. :P | |

| | | I promised some of you that I'd post once I found a salon....
I went to Catalina Salon on Saturday and I'm happy with my haircut and more importantly, it suits curly hair! They didn't speak a lot of English so my friend got more cut than she bargined for...but overall, we were happy and I will go back. It cost $150 - but they give discounts if you work for certain companies (ask them).

| | | I never visited a school where you learn how to cut hair in HK but my guess is that they sure learn how to handle thick and straight hair (the typical oriental hair type). There is nothing wrong with that they have to focus on the market needs.
My experience is that I (got curly hair too no perm was born with them) can always have a bad hair cut (except once in Beijing) around here the only choice is betwen an expensive bad hair cut or a cheap one I just go for the later.
There was a time I would go to a hotel (like those near the Star Ferry). Now I just go to Wanchai and pick one place clean enough. I even prefer it here than in China because all I want is to get out fast I don't really care about the neck/shoulder massage and the finger streching and whatever else they do in China.
Good luck!

| | | I'm getting increasingly better at cutting hair. Maybe I'll open a hair salon and call it Curly Jay's...hehe.
I had a really good cut at Rever in the Holiday Inn Golden Mile. The head guy there is called Ringo and he speaks really good English. He cuts my dad's hair too, and my dad's hair is virtually Afro curly. He's very expensive, but you are virtually guaranteed a good cut. He's too expensive for my wallet, though, and I feel like nobody knows my hair better than I do. I just have to work on my blending now.

| | | Lkf There is a hairdresser on the second floor on the corner of the street that cuts across the bottom of LKF, it is called Hair Room or Hair Zone, or something like that. I have curly hair and I got a good cut there, much better than I have had in Sydney! But it was about 400, so maybe a bit pricey for some | |

| | | Sorry I cant remember the mans name. His hair was like a rainbow with so many colors. I asked for someone who was expert in western haircuts and there were quite a few gwailo in the salon, so I think any of the hairdressers would be ok. | |
