cerberus is an unknown quantity at this point.
yeah, and the point of view you offered was inflammatory and extremely biased. when people were inquiring about prejudice in HK you deflected the question, instead of providing an answer, and basically said "but white people do it too!".

it's great you have a more progressive outlook on other issues, i'm not saying you're some sort of of villain. but as someone who's encountered attempts to belittle and debunk claims of bigotry in Asia before i do not accept your input in this particular thread.

sorry, but that's the way i see it.

Sorry you see it that way, because that's not what I intended. The point of a discussion is to offer points of view, and I offered mine. I used to think I noticed the 'surrounded by empty seats' syndrome when I first came here in 03, but I don't notice it anymore even though I look for it. So I assume I was just imagining things.

And I go by how I feel as well - I won't sit by just ANYone. If someone is sitting there picking their toes (or nose) or sweating profusely, or stinky, or anything I don't want to see, I don't sit next to them. Doesn't matter what race they are.

So yeah, if you think my comments are inflammatory (I'm not sure who it would be directed to... you? me? HK people?) then I'm sorry you feel that way. But live with it

uhm lowlight, I think cerberus was addressing Asian1 with his post.... for you never emphasised in your post that "white people do it, too" [=discriminate]. But Asian1 stated something like that.

And of course everybody has the right NOT to sit beside sweaty, stinky people.

but does sweaty stinky people have a right to sit beside anyone ?

that's something i always asked... does being sweaty and stinky made them less a human ? if they don't have a choice to being sweaty/stinky (e.g. coming back from work), is it fair for others to avoid them like a plague ?

another analogy is, when u are drunk yourself u don't usually smell the alcohol content in another guy's breath.
but if u are not, the person that drank is really smelly...

the same things can be extended to racial behavior and views.

hey freeier! Long time no hear!

Honestly, these smelly people don't have a right to be in a public place! The worst encounter (so far) was sitting inside the stinkiest taxi in the world in Dubai (thought I was about to die!)

Hygiene is a social responsibility!

If you're working in construction and are sweaty, consider freshening/changing after work

I suggest that when addressing a point far from the previous post, kindly quote... I was also wondering who he was addressing to

Sweaty stinky people have feelings too you know, we should all stop and think about that. Next time you see a sweaty stinky person you should say "Don't worry stinky, I'll sit next to you" then we could make the world a better place.

I would agree that it's not a good idea to sit next to the excessively tall, like Hullexile, becuase his armpit will be naturally closer to your nose.

or, people could just think "I'll take a bath every single day, be fresh, and make the world a better place!", hehe.

Honestly, I'm not serious about this discussion, just presenting the other point of view

Can I point out that apart from not being smelly or ugly I don't pick my nose or toes! And before they are mentioned I don't fart loudly or wear women's clothes or smell of alcohol or have bad breath. Now I am going to have a complex about people not sitting next to me! If you see a deranged gweilo on his knees begging people to sit next to him it will be me just before I throw myself in the harbour.

Lowlight you said you used to imagine this, but then accuse me of having a vivid imagination, strange. When more than one person shares the same vivid imagination perhaps there might be some truth in it.
