SMTP trouble

Having moved away from the gleaming towers of HK I know find myself deposited in the far corner of the China mainland.

Set up the e mail and it dont work

Apparently we use 126.com. Thats what the non english speaking person , who is the only person who can use a computer , seems to say. NO one except the wife speaks English here and my Chinese is limited.

I only log on to the isp through a name and password, I have no idea what I am logging on to.

So --
Set the SMTP at smtp.126.com , as advised by the 126.com website
I use Outlook 2003
my incoming POP is a .com address and a .com.cn address for my two e mail accounts. They work fine for incoming but won't send it out.

HELPPPPPPP !!!!!!

Am at present using hotmail to answer all but its driving me nuts.

A) is what i am doing correct for 126.com
B) If yes ( and its the website telling me it is ) , how can I see on what service I am operating on as an ISP .
I.E. is it true that the log on is into 126.com or am I being spoofed. I need to know so I can set the SMTP correctly.

FYI in HK my SMTP was the corpmail server of netvigator with the same POP incoming addresses. Worked great.

Regards

did you turn on the SMTP server authentication? usually your userid/password or email@126.com / password.

if you use netvigator.com

Netvigator blocked port25, you have to use this smtp provided by netvigator

corpmail1.netvigator.com

otherwise...you have to ask 126.com apart from port 25, any other ports for outgoing mail

yes..you' re right...the corpmail works fine, coz the reason i've mentioned..

i am using a web hosting that located in HK, coz of netivgator policies (blocked port 25), they know the situation, so that they reserved another port (like port 873 or whatever) for netvigator users..

for Knowitall -
I tried the server authentification routes and placed the ISP log on and password in the boxes . Nada, nothing , zilch, no difference.
Have change port setting to 587 , nothing either.
Translating the 126.com ( dont you just love Babel Fish ! ) shows a need for authentication on the server, so that is enabled with the name and password.

I also tried you email@126.com idea , same result - Nada.

I am using port 25 ( default ) but have also tried 587. That didn't work either. Could it be a port problem, if so what ones are suitable? Nothing is brought up on google.
It isn't SSL as its not enabled.

for clarence -
Thanks the tech stuff on netvigator, but if you read my posting you will see I AM NOT IN HK and dont use the PCCW system. It was the ISP and smtp that was used WHEN I LIVED IN HK. I put it into show how I had my e mail set up before and functioning.

Anyone know how I can see what ISP I am using??

Boris, can you run ipconfig/all to get your tcp/ip address then do a look up of the DNS to get your host's name?

Zero Gravitas is on a distinguished road
I suspect Discobay might have answered this in his PM's but if you got to http://www.dnsstuff.com/ in teh top right corner is your current IP address you may copy and paste this into the whois lookup box on the same page and you'll find out your ISP

As far as SMTP as the email domains your sending to @126.com or your own domains? The ISP may not be allowing you to relay through their mail server.

Morlich will become famous soon enough
Boris ... you said you had incoming pop server of ####@###.com or .com.cn, try using the same server as your outgoing SMTP server.
