HK Permanent ID card

I currently hold the HK Permanent Residency card (says AMOY) and wondered if this means I can work in HK too? My parents are both chinese but I'm British born. I know I need to apply for a Smart Card - does this help?

Also, I'm possibly moving to HK next year and have six years marketing/advertising experience & qualifications - but only speak Cantonese not read or write (must learn!) - is it easy enough to gain employment?

can anyone help??

Sorry, my card says AFOY. Thanks for the link to website, but it says 'right to abode' - sorry for being dumb but it doesn't specifically say 'right to abode and work'? or am I being pedantic?

You're not being pedantic. It actually says "Right of Abode" - now I'm being pedantic :-)

right of abode means that you are allowed to live in HK without restrictions... ie... work

when you get here you should contact immig dept about getting the smart card... it's just a new version of the ID card, is all...
