| | | Phases in Discovery Bay? I'm considering moving into Discovery Bay. Since I work in Central, I want to live as close as possible to the Ferry pier. (I'v heard travel within DB is a big hassle which I'd like to avoid).
Could someone explain which are the phases in Discovery Bay that are closest to the Ferry Pier to central? And which are the nearest apartments/high rises in that area?

| | | DB Plaza is the closest and they're the best apartments for access to the supermarket, restaurants and ferry. | |

| | | That's correct DB Plaza flats are your best bet. Getting around DB is not that bad as each phase is served by a bus route that has its terminus at the ferry pier. There is also a shoppers' bus route which makes pick ups all over the place. But ideally you may want to cut down all that travelling time by living as close to the pier as possible. You could also consider getting a golf buggy for those essential supermarket runs if you live farther away from the pier. | |

| | | The high-rise buildings, Glamour, Brilliance and Elegance are also just a few minutes' walk to the ferry pier. I live in Glamour and find it to be a very convenient location. Some of the apartments have great views, too. | |

| | | there has not been a shoppers' bus route for almost 6 years!
there are five forms of transport within db:
1)walking... many do this, i don't live in the plaza apts, but behind them, it takes me 3 minutes to walk to the ferry in the morning...then i get a bus back in the evening...i live up a steep hill...
2) golf cart.... expensive but 500 peopel have them...
3) buses... .as someone else mentioned, there are buses within db. their schedule matches the ferry times, so you should always be able to catch the ferry if you take the bus
4) hire cars... a kind of taxi... this is what you've heard complaints about. there are only 7 to serve all of db... it can sometimes be a real pain in the butt! but could be an awful lot worse... i feel badly for the drivers as they put up with a lot of crap from passengers, even though they are just doing as they are told by their superiors
5) benz vans... an insane idea from HKR... it costs $50/trip and can take up to 4 people at a time for that price.
you don't really need to be "as close to the ferry as possible" you need to make a trip out to have a look....
you will want to look at:
plaza apartments
la costa
la vista(where i live)
hillgrove village(mentioned earlier... glamour, brilliance & elegance courts)
beach village
it all depends on your budget... but with all of these places you can walk to the ferry within about 5 minutes

| | | Phases 3 [Hillgrove Village: Elegance, Brilliance, Glamour Court], 6 [Plaza] and 8 [La Costa: Onda Court / Costa Court] are closest to the pier, followed by Beach Village (low-rise buildings). Phase 7 (La Vista) and 9 (La Serene) and Phases 2 (Midvale Village) and 3 (Parkvale Village) are uphill although geographically they are also quite close to the pier. As for the other phases, the buses are cheap (HK$ 3.50) and run very frequently; thus, the only area in DB not within easy reach of the pier is Bijou Hamlet up by the golf course. | |

| | | I wouldn't recommend living up the hill in Midvale if you want to be close to the pier. It is atleast a twenty minute hike uphill and in this kind of weather can be a killer. | |
