We are moving to Hong Kong soon. I will have a 2 yr contract in an international school and work visa. My husband will have a dependent visa. We have been told that dependents may work. Can someone clarify this and give any information on it? We have been told that the rules on dependents working have recently changed.

I'm in the same situation as you. I'm moving soon to HK to teach as well. As far as i can remember, there has been a change in the immigration law recently. Dependents can now work. I think the change came about in May. There was a thread on this topic recently.

Any info regarding the new dependent status rules and same sex relationships? I have work here in HK and my partner would like to join me. We have been together for over 12 years and are now seperated because of visa restrictions... Of course he could apply for work independently - but would have to do it from abroad and we all know how difficult that is. Just seems a little unfair...

Unfortunately, you must be legally married (and of opposite sex) to get a dependent visa. No chance for same sex relationships (not even, I believe, if you have some sort of "marriage" from a place that does those things for same sex couples). An investment visa is another way to enter if you have the means to do that.
