Question HK Girl Wants to Join Western Gym

I have a friend that is Chinese and is very nice and attractive and she goes to the gym she belongs to about 4 times a week. She wants to meet some Western guys so I suggested that she go to a gym. She says that there are no 'trial memberships' at 'Western Gyms' like there are here in California. Is she correct or can she get a one month trial membership or other trial to see if she likes the guys there?

I've never met a guy at the gym! Am I doing something wrong?

Actually Paul, there are a lot of women that use the gym as a meeting place. I remember at California Fitness there were a few women that would spend a good 20-30 mins in the changing rooms grooming themselves, they just strut around the gym and never work out.

Yeah I am not too sure you'll meet loads of western guys at the gym but you just might bump into a few if you're willing to take the initiative! My take is that the guys at the gym are there work out. Bars are a better place to meet "western" guys.

That said...maybe California will be the best shot (out of the gyms - with a western population). if you're / your friend is still interested in a trial membership, I think I might have a couple of passes with me (they should still be valid - no expiry date mentioned) that allow you to try the gym for a week or so! (you should have a valid HKID card for that which should not be a problem in your friend's case)

Lemme know!

H

PS: You're right Rani..there are a few who spend a good hour or so jus moving around in the gym talking on their mobile phones and doing nothing else!

I got all hot and bothered there as my ancestors come from north of Bombay and I have normally considered myself 'western'.

Then I figured that what our friend is looking for is an Occidental Gentleman- ie someone who originates from west of the Caucasus.

Sorry I have just been thumped on the head by a colleague who hails from west of the mighty Mississippi, which according to him is the home of the real Western Man.
And who am I to argue with him?

anyone from west of the Yangste care to comment?

Mitch,

I'm not sure if your friend knows this, but I've heard that gyms are considered "pick-up" joints by gay men.....So, unless your friend subscribes to the lifestyle, I suggest she try the bars. She'll have better luck there. If all else fails, there's always the classifieds.....

That's not a generalization is it? I've noticed this in the lockers occasionally....though it's not very common. Or thats what I would like to think!!!

I Guess you could still meet quite a few straight people...if you're willing to take the first step. (which would be the case everywhere - not necessarily a gym).

Hiten, I don't understand. What did you see at the lockers? Can you please elaborate.

Guys "picking up" guys!.

I once saw 2 guys (non-chinese) who were beside me in the locker kinda starting a conversation which was leading into this direction. I dont know what transpired later ...Though this would be possible anywhere not just the gym...just that a "locker room" in the gym kinda makes it sound more .......; [and we wouldnt wanna talk about that here anyway!!]

But as I said before...I dont think its very common!
