Extended warranties are a huge money earner for electronics shops the world over. HK is no different from anywhere else. Like all insurance policies (that being what they are) it will only be worth it if you are sure that your chance of incurring the insured event is significantly higher than average (or if the cost of the event, however unlikely would be beyond you budget).

They have to re-train Andy Lau for that one.

You mean "return because I changed my mind and don't like/want it any more"? That's just market forces - they do because they can.

"Return it because it doesn't work" is the same as anywhere else.

Some places do have the same "return if you don't like it" policies as elsewhere: Marks & Spencer and IKEA for example.

I agree with this totally. Do your copious research before you buy anything. I may walk into a store and look at products/brands/models I know nothing about but would never buy on the spot regardless of the deal they say they're giving. Do your research such that your only reason to talk to the sales staff is to discuss to the price. There's a wealth of information out there and stuff like warranties, product capabilities, product comparisions etc is easy to find. It's not that I think the sales people are potential scammers it's just that I know they're lazy retards who have no idea what they're selling and the other products available.

I was looking at buying my new LCD TV from Fortress (Samsung 32"). Retail price is $13,800. But they are saying $11,800 with free gift of Samsung Home Entertainment System (DVD player and speakers). They say it is a new model, but none in stock until at least 15 July.

If I don't buy from Fortress, where else would you recommend?

Any help would be much appreciated.

the Samsung R series ? i got mine at fortress, and unlike possibly everyone else on this board, my tv came on time and worked just fine.

someone comes up to deliver the tv, they will set it up for u. then someone else comes up to mount it on the wall if you so desire.

the tv is quite fantastic, btw.
