| | | Wow, a thread about Fortress sucking that hit 4 pages in less than two days. And here I was thinking my experience was unique.
Between ten and one. That's what they told me. Between ten and one they would deliver my microwave, tv, vacuum cleaner, dehumidifier, air purifier, and well, you get the idea. So I waited around all day in an empty apartment for the delivery. After a half-dozen phone calls, when do they show up? Six thirty. This was after a half-dozen soft deadlines of "before 4", "definitely before 6", and finally a "certainly before 7." I'd been laying around my barren apartment for almost 9 hours!! And, well, I'd love to vent more, but waiting around all day has made me late for my dinner plans. My TV had better freakin' work.

| | | I have dealt with the Mong Kok branch shop manager but he may not be a GeoExpat reader (blasphemy!). | |

| | | Given these scarily bad stories, where would people recommend as a reliable one stop shop for basic electronics and electric goods?
Where have people had good experiences of delivery, quality and after sales services?

I bought a O2 XDAII from Fortress a while ago, and the sales man adviced me to buy the extended warranty from Fortress for which I had to pay extra. The warranty assured me free repair or even a replacement if needed. The unit got wet and failed almost a year later and I went back to Fortress customer service to check what the procedure is to get it repaired. Shockingly I was informed that the fortress extended warranty did not cover such machines as mine during the time that I purchased it and that the sales man had made a mistake. Fortunately after repeated calls and heated conversations with the manager and threatening to sue them, I was compensated for the value of the unit.

| | Remember in all this that HK has what is apparently a very effective small claims tribunal (although I have never had cause to use it myself). Details here: http://www.judiciary.gov.hk/en/crt_s...lt/html/sc.htm | |

| | | Several months ago I bought a mobile phone at Fortress. I split my time (for months at a time) between HK and Vancouver and I wanted a new tri-band phone that I could use in both places. I saw one on the shelf that appealed to me and the sign said 'tri-band'. I asked to see it and the salesguy confirmed it was triband and usable in Canada. So I bought it and guess what - when I got to Canada it didn't work. I then noticed in the specs in the owner's manual that it was not tri-band but duoband, and not usable in North America. I was pissed and phoned Fortress from Canada. I talked to the same salesguy who after checking, confirmed that it was indeed duoband. He blamed the mistake on the sign on the shelf which he accepted as true. To Fortress' credit, they said they would take the phone back with a full refund. I'm still pissed about the mistake though as I was out the $25 Cdn ($175 HKD) that it cost to ship it back, and was inconvenienced without a mobile for a while. I was foolish to not check the manual before I bought it and I would advise all of you to not make the same mistake with any product you buy. | |

| | | Geoexpat boycott of Fortress? Maybe that will get thru to them, seeing as they only seem to care about the bottom line. Lets him them where it hurts...at the cash register! | |

If you read Chinese, buy a Magazine named Next Magzine, there are whole bunch of complains about HK well known companies, ranging from cell phone companies to ISP. I dont get impulsive while buying, as the benefits they hand out, there must be a trap. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 06:35 AM.
