Help!

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop (P4, 2.8Ghz).

I bought some RAM (1 GB, PC3200/DDR400, 184 PIN DIMM) yet am having trouble installing it. When I try to boot the computer, it lets out a series of beeps and fails to boot.

Currently, I have a 256MB RAM chip and the PC boots up fine with that. I've tried installing the 1GB in that "good" slot by itself as well as the other slot, but still the same problem.

Can anyone give some advice?

Are you sure your MB can support PC 3200 RAM? If so, try changing the RAM for a new module and see how it goes...

Looks like your rig can support a maximum of 1GB of PC3200 DDR SDRAM @400MHz. Check that the module is seated correctly and the clip is fully down and locked in place. Failing that replace with the original module and boot up to make sure everything is as it was. Then replace with the new module again and enter BIOS setup to check that the RAM is being recognised. On occasions just this itself forces the BIOS to update itself with the changes you have just made. Just an idea.

On boot up you may see a message on the screen prompting you to enter setup. If not the key sequence is either F1 or Del or something I can't think of. That should do it.

Agree with discobay, make sure the ram stick is firmly seated into the slot (and make sure it's not inserted the wrong way!)

Where did you buy your RAM?

If I'm not mistaken, Dell have had a history of using specialist components for their PC's. In this case it would be preferable for you to buy your RAM from Dell directly for your upgrade.

I know it sucks, they cost a bit more, and they'll rip you off, but hey,...at least it's gonna work for sure...

hi i have got a sony vaio notebook i brought a 1 gb ram fitted it and when i boot my comp it just switches on then switchs off after a second i pulled out the ram and it booted fine please help
