Cats in Hong Kong

Dear all,

I am moving to HK in October, and am having to make the hard decision about what is best for my 2 cats.

Has anyone brought cats from the UK to Hong Kong? How have the settled? Are they ok with the heat? Do they cope with being indoors all the time, or do they seem desperate to be outside?

Any advice is appreciated as I am really struggling.

Jen

Cats in HK

Jen, I have a cat (exotic short) at home, my friends are having different kind of cat and they have no problem with the heat, and one of my friends has brought a cat from the UK to Hong Kong few years ago, not too complicated, but a health check is a must. My advice is, consider the age and relationship and also the time you decided to stay in HK, if you really love him/her, just bring them to HK.

I brought my cat from Canada, and she has always been an indoor cat, so that's not a problem. The heat issue.. well she definitely is less active than before. But our cat is also over 8 years old now, so maybe that has something to do with it...

we have 5 cats in the house, some are local, some exotic, some short haired and some long haired haha.... all of their favorite activity seems to be basking in the sun near the windows!!

they're all extremely active and overall, just seem to be content. i say, bring them along

Agree with everyone else here. Cats are pretty adaptable as long as they are in a loving environment. We bought our 2 cats from USA last year and they are fine. They were a bit fussy at first, but settled down within a month or so. It was a no-brainer decision for us as we couldn't possibly leave them behind. My one advice for peace of mind...consider a pet-moving company for the move. They take care of all the documents, health checks etc. to make sure the cats come into HK without any delays or problems. You can probably find one in UK, or, you can ask these guys locally in HK who've helped us out www.wishyouwerehere.com.hk...they're an English couple who do moving and pet-sitting (we've used them for past 2 years in HK). They can help to advise you as well.
