Dehumidifier Boxes

Hi,
Does it make a difference which brand of dehumidifying boxes one uses in their wardrobes? Is one more effective than another? I see some which are really cheap ($10 each) and others are closer to $30 - any downsound to buying the less expensive ones??

Thanks.

for cupboards I find the tube heaters most effective. These are metal tubes with a heating element inside which are screwed into the sides.
Never need replacing.

Thanks for the tips.

If you buy a humidifier for the house...do you have to keep it on all the time?

They're pretty much the same regardless of the brand.

There is a difference

I tried some really cheap ones for $10 for 3 and they are rubbish, they do collect water but very slowly. I recently bought some for $60 for 3, I put one next to the existing (cheaper) boxes and the new one was saturated within a few days.

The more expensive (beads that turn to gel) work much better. But costing $20 and only lasting for a few days, it maybe better to get electric unit.

I agree with Mr Lam - the blue-top Japanese ones do seem to work much more effectvely than, for example, the "No Frills" ones from Wellcome, but they are a load more expensive. I too have gone for an electric dehumidifier now, plus one or two aricons and just suffering the HK$1000/month electric bill for a couple of months.

i personally recommend it - i run mine the whole day and have to change the tank at least twice - thrice a day! mind you, it's just a litre dehumidifier, but still... lots of moisture in the air and i'm happy without it

Tube Heaters

Can someone explain how the tube heaters work? Do they generate a lot of heat? Can they be placed in the closets and around the windows?

I thought heating would make the humidity worse in an apartment?

Thanks for your help.
