| | | First full day in HK Thought I would share a few of thoughts:
1) A lot of people talked about how rude people were as did Readers Digest. However so far the complete opposite has been true. Haven't heard too many horns honking. People have been courteous. One of the nicest cities I have ever been to and I have been pretty much everywhere.
2) One of the cleanest cities too.
3) Fun how almost every corner you turn there is something exciting to see.
4) I have never felt heat and humidity like this in my life!
5) Lot more dogs than I thought, which is good because mine will be coming here too.
So far HK has actually exceded my expectations. Looking forward to seeing more.

| | | there are some...
talk loudly on public transport, esp. those senior citzens.
don't hold lift or door for the followers...
esp. those in Central
don't queue up if there's no a queue guide like barrier, road paint...etc...
but overall it's still very good....

| | | Cleanest? Hmm... well, depending which parts of the city you visited. But the air and harbor is heavily polluted.
Excitment everywhere? Yea, I can vouch for that.
Heat/Humidity? You came to this place at the wrong time of the year. Had you come in Fall and Winter, you will love HK even more.
Dogs? If you want to see dogs, there's a new estate development in a remote island where pretty much all local dog lovers stay. I forgot the name, but you can't drive there or take a taxi. I believe they only have natural gas buses there.
More excitement...
1. First 1000Mbps household Internet & free WiFi everywhere... YAY!
2. You've to pay almost 100% more for a BMW than any parts of the world. BUMMER...
3. Gas is freaking expensive. So, don't drive in HK.
4. No sales tax! I think almost every major industrial nation on this planet now has sales tax, except HK. YAY!

| | | yes there is no sales tax but the cost of land and hence the (very high) retail rents means you pay the same or more for items than places with sales tax. That's not a complaint you just have to pay what things cost, which personally I'm fine with but the point is that no sales tax doesn't necessarily mean cheaper. And boy is that a dull thought for a sunday night! | |

| | irock, I think you are referring to "Ma Wan" as a "remote island" with a new development, known as Park Island. True, there are numerous dog lovers living there. But the island is actually not too remote. It is accessible by 24-hour ferry and shuttle bus service. The ferry takes 25 minutes to central (the pier is facing IFC) or 15 minutes to Tsuen Wan. The shuttle bus takes 10 minutes to Tsing Yi MTR or 15 minutes to Kwai Fong MTR for transfer to all places in Hong Kong. The place stresses on resort-style clean and green environment very suitable for expats, young couples with kids, and dog lovers too. Quote: |
