Any Nvidia GeForce experts out there?

Hello

I am pulling my hair out with a problem with my new nVidia GeForce 7600 GS card.

The issue is simple. I would like to be able to play back full screen video on my TV from my PC.

The two are connected up using the S-Video output on my PC.

The problem is: If I set the nVidia to 'Clone' it doesn't play full screen on my TV. If I sent the view to 'Dual View' I can't see the media center interface on the TV.

I also have a laptop with an nVidia GeForce 4200 - and setting the secondary display to TV and using the view type 'clone' works without any problem, so I can't understand why I can't get this to work.

I am running Windows XP (SP2) Media Center Edition 2005, Forceware version 84.21. Card is a GeForce 7600 GS 256Mb (Bios version 5.73.22.16). I upgraded the Forceware to version 91.31 and there is an option to force full screen on the secondary output. The problem with this, though, is that since I upgraded the TV output is in black and white and flickers really badly.

So the question is do I (and can I!) downgrade back to forceware 84.21 and try to solve the non full screen issue or do I stick with this new forceware 91.31 and try to somehow stop the TV from flickering badly and being in black and white? Also might be worth mentioning, since I have upgraded the forceware, when I am in the nVidia control panel, the window flickers a bit too - which I guess ain't supposed to happen.

Any help really appreciated. Got a banging headache from staring at a flickering TV and changing display settings for the last 3 hours!

Try chooseing Coaxial instead of S-video, to get the color back.. this has been something thats plagued Nvidia cards since the days of Gf3 and they just dont seem to care to fix it.
The flickering may be due to the output resolution, most CRT tvs cant handle more than 800X600 or at best as iw seen is 1024x768. and tvs have a 60hertz refresh rate so dot go running the outpot at 1280x1024@75hertz.

Thanks Johan

Actually got it sorted. I rolled back the Forceware to 84.21. The issue is that the card wasn't outputting in Pal/H format and the option to change this was greyed out.

When I rolled back, I got a different set of options, one of them allowed to display full screen on the secondary device.

What a pain! Reading loads of forum's on the net suggests the new version of Forceware really isn't stable.

On a seperate note, I have been tryomg tp convert multiple avi's to play on a regular dvd player.

I used VSODix2ToDVD to create the Video_TS folder which I then copied to DVD using Nero 7. It plays but pixelates really badly when the screen changes a lot.

Anyone recommend a way to do this that is reliable and WORKS?? I have tried umpteen bits of software (nero vision express, nero 7, dvd santa, Ulead, copy2dvd....) but just can't get this to work reliably.

Thanks!

HKNewBi, a quick question for you:

Just like to get your opinion on your 7600 GS. I would also like to know if you think a 7600 GT for an additional $300 is worth it.

Thanks!

Must be honest I am not really an expert on these things. That said I am very happy with the card. I have a 19" flat screen monitor which it powers excellently and it hasn't failed me yet.

The lastest Nvidia drivers caused me a lot of problems but rolling back to the previous release solved those issues.

As for GS / GT? I really don't know as I don't know what the difference between the two cards actually is.
