Smile Theatre in HK

Hmm, the theatre life in HK seems a bit dull. I've been here for some time, but see no change or development. Oh well, they are trying to add a bit to it now i suppose...

Still, I was just wondering if there are any expat theatre professionals out there :-)

I wouldn't call myself a 'theatre professional' but I'm a theatre professional audience member...

I was looking to join a basic acting or theatre group. I was in one in London that was run by an adult college and it was really fun. I haven't found anything like that here though, especially English speaking... anyone else know?

that's what i'm looking for...i know there are english speaking theatre groups here like the HK Singers, Lindsey McAlistor Productions (?), Mon Cafe Theatre, etc... but nothing that performs very regularly as far as i know

i'm not a theatre performer (anymore) - more into choreography and even more into theatre design... currently doing a degree in both those areas :-)

so if small theatre groups don't exist here, perhaps we should start some!

Does anyone know what type of performaning art center(s) there are here? Experimental theaters? Would be fun to go to the theatre every once and awhile, no?

I would love to go back on stage

Hi everyone,

I also love theatre and am just came back from London. I am a local and used with a group of people running a drama club. We hold production regularly or we will participated in the annual drama festival but sadly not anymore in recent years.

I used to do the backstage work and so would love to meet more people who are also interested in theatre. May be we can go to see some productions together.

Cheers,
Littlealien

can i ask what kind of backstage work you're into?

i'm a set and lighting designer myself. :-)

Honestly, I'd love it if a few of us could get together to watch performances together - should check out what's coming on :-)

Performing Arts Centers? Venues or theatre groups?

Venue wise, loads! for experimental theatre though, very few... there's HK Arts Center and the Fringe Club on HK Island and there is the Cattle Depot in Kowloon which hosts regular productions by local groups
