If you are a boarder, bullying is part of the tradition when you are below year 11. It's not that bad if you are a day boy.

Frankly speaking, I have never heard of any drug cases inside the school.

All I can say is it really depends on yourself and who you choose to hang out with.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, that surely helps. What about the style of the teachers? I see that a school's tradition has influence on teachers. And the overall rank of the school at recent time?

Kings School - Sydney

My son is currently at Kings - the cost is about $160,000+ a year for boarding. It is fabulous - the teachers are excellent and work really hard to get the best out of the boys. It is on 320 acres, (not really rural NSW - it is in Parramatta - a satellite city of Sydney) it has fantastic facilities and opportunities, the leadership program is great throughout the school and the pastoral care is also fabulous. It is the oldest private school in Australia and is very protective of its heritage. They cater for the scholar and the battler (with a significant educational support centre ffor those with learning difficulties.)

There is some bullying even though they have zero tolerance - but if the boys are caught there is swift retribution. The discipiline is consistent, fair and really helps to teach the boys how to behave in many situations. They don't stand for messing around too much, but they still have fun. Boarding is a big part of the school with about 50% of the school being boarders (1500 being the school population). There is so much for them to do all the time.

Our son is attending due to some poor decisions he has made in the past and it has changed him significantly in the last 6 months - for the better. He is now striving for excellence in his behaviour and goals. All the boys I have seen come out of Kings are gentlemen and mature beyond their years - but still have a sense of fun. Would highly recommend it although it is expensive.

My dad, brothers and son went there, don't have a negative thing to say, loved it, the teachers are great, and honestly, my son who is 9 has been to three other schools since then (in the UK and the US) and I've yet to find a better school environment, quality of teaching, general atmosphere anywhere else... they have a lot of money I guess, and it's put to excellent use : in educational techniques and means in general. I've not heard of bullying, because I think they pay close attention to what happens outside of class. Never heard of drugs there either. It's a very protective environment, same with the boarding part. They don't take lightly to alcohol and drug use, it's quite strict in that sense.
