Can you open an bank account for a baby in HK?

Hi to all Finance Expa in HK,

I'd like to ask for your advice.
Is there any way I can open a college fund or simply CD in her name as a gift for a new born niece from USA?
I can get a copy of her HK ID card if that would be enough document.

She will be raised in HK with dual citizenship of Japan and HK. So Citibank or Vangard or any entity has global network would be ideal...

Thank you

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question, but I find your assertion quite surprising since as far as I am aware citizenship of HK (=China) requires Chinese ethnicity, and citizenship of Japan requires Japanese ethnicity... (with very few exceptions in both cases).

DYO probably means residency not citizenship. Come on PDLM give him/her a break.

We opened an education fund for our son at Citibank, he was months old at the time. Just drop in and speak to them about it. He doesn't have a HKID do other documents (birth cert, etc.) are usable.

a baby born with a chinese dad and japanese mum wld fall into that category i'd think. japanese nationality defined as someone that can trace one of their parental ancestor to a japanese national... e.g. fujimori of chile.
