I'll most likely have CDN expenses. So I can get a 5% return with no risk... what investment options might I consider if i aim for a 6-8% return?

Unit trusts. Risk level 1 (lowest) gives ~10-14% p.a. Consult with your bank. Gold TAEL's where rising since 1.5 years, got +12% since 6 months, but who knows where the gold market brakes.

HSBC Managed Balanced Fund Class A
15.67% in the last 6 months, 20.20% in the last 12 months, 71.16% - 3 years.

AllianceBernstein (HK) Ltd. - Global conservative portfolio
5.85% in the last 6 months, 9.79% in the last 12 months

Fidelity Investments - Growth&Income Fund
10.40% in the last 6 months, 14.85% in the last 12 months


Of cause there are other risks when in the bank deposit, but again it's risk level 1 of 5, so quite conservative.

i'm not saying that unit trust investment is wrong, but sampling for a 10-15% annual return should not be done at the supposedly wave 5 of a run. 8-P

Funds should be managed, I would not put money into 1 industry for 8-10 years. 1-2 years max, when collect the profit, reinvest into the upcoming trend.


Btw. what do you think will happen in the coming 6 months what did not happen in the last 6 months?

anyway not saying its right or wrong, just pointing out that even the most optimistic projection from the banks selling the unit trust are pegging these at returns of 6~8% p.a.

time to change the bank: for 6-8% I would go on vocation for that money - makes more return
