yoshinoya
the one that sells beef rice.
its actually more like an american fast food chain cos it was quite a reverse import into japan

There really is no accounting for taste -but when the urge hits for that very same beef rice bowl [not me] then it will not be denied

It has to be said that Yoshinoya's are quite a bit tastier (though maybe a bit lower end in looks of the establishment) in Japan than in HK.

not too sure about that last comment.

apparently what happened was yoshinoya started in japan, but the faze never caught on in japan.
so they brought it to US and it got super popular there.. that's where the ingredient and procedures were established.

so eventually they brought it back to japan again as a 'reversed' import, or so they call (referring to cars like honda made in US but being exported back to japan)... much of their ingredient were US made so when the Mad cow hit US (and japan banned US beef) yoshinoya was totally hit out. they had to think of replacement stuffs like chicken bowl and etc..

so i am not sure how much diff between the made in japan taste and other places in the world...

Just returned from stuffing myself with salmon.
Aside from the slab, they had Tobiko salmon bowl set+Assorted AoMori mushrooms

The only problem is miso makes one thirsty, and this must be the only nippon joint that doesn't do Orion beer. or any beer for that matter.
That seems to be their only failing.

thanks for the background. But theory aside, my observations are borne out of personal experience confirmed a few times over (and our team with us in Tokyo last Nov echoed that even though we would use it there as a last resort - e.g. tearing hurry, delayed lunchtime other places closed ). The options in HK are a bit more staid as well. Probably a loose franchise. Still walk down to Hennessy Rd about once a month for a change from the Pacific Place fare.
