expat -no visa- wanting to go to UNI

Hi Guys,

This is quite boring................................

I've given up trying to apply for a job and having visa issues, old story, too boring to revisit.

I've looked through the Hong Kong Universities and seen some interesting postgrad courses, thinking that I might as well prepare myself for my big work comeback, somewhere else.

Does anyone know about the likelihood of me being able to apply onto a H.K postgrad course, and therefore being accepted as a 'foreign student?' Also, would it be better for me to apply using an address from back home rather than the 'unofficial one' here?

(I'm already aware of fees etc).

I was also told, just wondering, in the instance of getting a 'student visa' would that include some minimalised working hours opps?

My main need for knowledge here is applying to H.K. Uni's, and wanting to know how to increase my chances of eligibility.

Thanking you in advance.

Whether you can apply for the course really depends on your qualification to the course eligibility. If you can meet their requirements, I don't think it would be very difficult. Of course, I would suggest you using your home address rather than the unofficial address to apply for the course. Also, if your address in HK is temporary, you'd better mention at the application and give your permanent address too.

If you really want to be accepted for your study, you can try Poly U, City U or Baptist U, which should be easier than other three universities in HK.

Good Luck.

It depends on what kind of postgrad degree you apply for. The highest competition is when applying for MPhil or PhD degrees, because accepted students get a studentship of about 12000 HK$ per month. To get accepted for MPhil you need very good marks in your undergrad studies. (That seems to be all the Unis here care about).

I and a friend got accepted for MPhil/PhD mainly because we found professors that helped us to get in... Some of the Chinese Profs in HK are quite eager to take in foreign students.

HKU, CUHK, and HKUST are the three "real" universities in Hong Kong. Don't bother with the other ones.
