Question NET Teacher

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knew what TEFL courses were recognised by the HK government for the Primary NET Teacher scheme.
I was thinking of doing a Cambridge CELTA as that seems to be widely recognised.

Anybody know for sure?

They're not recognised for the Primary NET scheme as such, you need to have a Post Grad to get onto the EMB NET scheme.

Just read your post - best to look at the EMB website really, but I know people who have recently been accepted onto the P-Net scheme based on a combination of good interviews, CELTAs and work experience in HK primary schools. Good luck!

Red face

I managed to get into the PNET scheme. Starting this Aug. I have a Post grad dip in Education but no TEFL or Celta cert. But in my case, before the end of my contract, I would need to complete at least a cert tefl before the second contract can be awarded.

Thanks for all the advice.

I am actually applying directly to a school as I already know the Principal there. This means I will not have to go through the EMB but I will still be required to meet their specifications. Under category 4 it says you can be a Primary NET teacher with a degree and a TEFL. But there are hundreds of TEFL courses. I think the CELTA is the most widely recognised so they could probably not argue with that.
Any thoughts?

Billy

I think i should be doing the celta cert. It's prob more recognised than most certs. I think British Council has classes for celta that specialises for teaching primary school kids.

Am a NET myself first year. When i applied for the Pnet scheme and passed the interview i dint even have tefl cert. I did it only after. N now am gonna do a Pgde coming sept. I guess it all depends on the school again. If they r ok with ur degree n cert then it shud do. If they say u ve to get a higher cert then tha's wat u ve to do.

My school dint really ask me to do a dip or anything like that.

Anyways good luck
