How much to get health insurance for employee?

Hi,

I am a small business owner in HK and I am starting to hire employees. Does anyone know how much it is to get a basic health insurance plan for employees?

Thanks,
Kelly

It depends on how many employess and how's the insurance package. You'd better negotiate with few insurance brokers to get a good deal.

Insurance

Personally the company that hired me bought a good insurance package with AXA and it costed them 23000 HKD for one year.

With this insurance each medical expense is reimbursed, within a limit of 1000000 HKD per year.

It depends on what cover you want, but the plan chris780 mentions seems like extraordinarily bad value (assuming it is just for a single person). Normally for that sort of price you get full worldwide cover including North America with a top limit of at least US$1M. In the USA HK$1M just about buys you the ambulance to the hospital - it certainly isn't going to cover that, plus emergency treatment, operations, stabilisation, and then an air ambulance to get you home...

And HK$23000 is an enormous price - I've never ever seen a policy quoted for a single person that was that expensive.

For single employees who don't travel on business we buy insurance for around HK$4-5000 per year in a bulk package I think.

But as someone above said - talk to an insurance broker about your exact needs.

I made a mistake it is 1M HKD per event, not per year sorry.

Yes it is expensive but you get reimbursed for every single medical expense and it includes a air imbulance to get you home, dental expenses, spectacles, etc...

Do health insurances costing 5000 HKD/year exist? Do they really reimburse you for that price and do you get a worlwide coverage?

Please provide the links to us it might interest my company.

Thanks

I have a package from William Russell (who advertise on this site) through a broker who is not allowed to be mentioned on this site. But since William Russell has set up an office in HK recently I guess you can go direct...

But just to be clear, the HK$5000 packages are for people who don't travel on business, so in addition to that they need holiday travel insurance (cost about HK$1000-1500/year).

Personally I buy something different because fortunately I don't incur "routine" medical expenses (haven't been to a doctor for over 20 years except for a couple of sporting injuries).
