| | Another newie..... Hi all, am relatively new to HK (ie. have been flying in & out of here for over the past 6 mths). i'm Chinese, born in M'sia, grew up in Sydney, Australia, and just got transfered to HK last Dec for work. Unfortunately, I don't speak Canto, only Eng.... but am learning a few words here and there. Would love to meet more new friends from across the globe before my next travel venture, and this seems like the place to do just that. Is there meetings or any events planned that you meet and greet people from this forum? | |

| | Hi, welcome, etc. etc.
There are 'official' organised get-togethers every 6-8 weeks or so, but they've been getting pretty big (there were over 250 people registered for the last one) recently... There are also 'unofficial' get-togethers pretty much every weekend and often during the week, where a member of the site just calls for it - nominates a place, a time, and maybe an activity (bowling, hiking, cycling, tram party(!), or just eating/drinking) and whoever wants to turn up, turns up. Keep an eye on the site, look for a get-together which interests you, stick your hand up to say you're coming, and come along! If you're worried about meeting people, drop a PM to the person organising the event and ask for their phone number - if it hasn't been given - so you've got a contact person when you get there...
At the moment, events are likely to be either World Cup get-togethers or people-who-don't-want-to-watch-the-World-Cup things - it tends to polarise people, I think

| | | Yup, i actually met some of them when they were doing their "world cup" at LKF, actually snap couple of them and got them over to "Sugar" which is a nite club located in LKF, where the GEOs met the NETs, they are all native english teachers hired from over-sea to teach in HK, mostly from Canada, Australia, & the UKs. Had a blast. | |

| | | Is anyone out tonight? I'd be keen on meeting up if anyone's out tonight or Sat night.... but am considering most would be on recovery mode from England's match last night..... I'm honing out for the Sun nite games..... Go Socceroos.... honestly, i'm more a rugby girl at heart.... State of Origins played last Wed, if anyone caught it.... disappointing for NSW, but will be playing again on Sun in Melb. | |

We have met for games every night since the start of the World Cup and by now we have a regularly routine of meeting at Skidz bar in Wanchai before the first kick-off of the day. Most nights we only stay for the first game except for last night when England played and the night before when Germany had a 3a.m. gane. Tonight will also be a double-header. These gatherings will continue at least until June 20 and I am also in process of making plans for the play-off stages. For more info, go to this thread: Information about: World Cup Outings through June 20
