hi brat, im from the Philippines and my work visa only took 3 weeks. So no, they don't discriminate against us.

I think key is if there is any local who can do your job. The easier it is for your company to justify, the faster your process is. IF your company is a big multinational, all the more easier.

But I do suggest you push back your notice period until you get your visa. You should only quit now when you feel you will do so anyway no matter what. If it is conditional, then wait first for your visa.

Thanks Cool Girl! Sound advise. I've decided to wait it out though it's not going to be easy. I get so uncomfortable when my current ofcmates talk to me about plans for September or October when I know I won't be there (if i'm lucky enough to get approved). But yeah, better to get paid while enduring the wait. Your 3 weeks sounds great, i can only hope to be as fortunate. Right now, I'm crossing my fingers and toes because I really want this job. The company is quite big and well-known. More than the move to HK, the chance to work for them is a great opportunity in itself. My industry is not very common but it's media-related so not entirely rare either. I don't really know how many locals can do my job but I suppose they wouldn't hire me if they could find someone to fill my position in the first place...

Hi Guys and Ladies,

I get out of the US Navy, August 01, 2007 of this year. I would love to move to Hong Kong. How do I go about applying for a Work Visa. I really would appreciate the help of any one that would tell me what to do. Thank You!

You could check the HK immigration dept http://immd.gov.hk/ehtml/home.htm
basically, you need to find an employer first, then he needs to apply the visa for you, with details of why the post cant be filled by locals.

Hi All!..I have same situation as Brat's..it's just that my inquiry is a little bit late now..I've been here for 13 days and need to exit in few hours from now..no news about my work visa which has been processed 4 weeks ago..I intend to exit to Macau tomorrow and stay there for the weekend (2 days)..what I worry now is if I will be accepted to HK to re-entry as a tourist again...

You shouldn't have a problem if it is within your first or second time of exiting. If you get questioned just be honest with the immigration officer as they are able to see the application file pending in their system.

Enjoy Macau!

Thanks Alby!...when I was yet in Macau (I worked there for 1.5 years so I had my work permit then) During that time, I went in and out of HK but spent maximum of 3 days per entry...This time it's my first long (14 days) in HK..Can this be considered as my "first" exit?
