freeier, that's quite unique, they never saw you and gave you an offer! You must be really good, hehehe...

In my case, I had first round over the phone, then they flew me over to HK for several rounds in a day. (they wore me out - 6 rounds in a day, flew in at an early morning flight, took the last flight out, arrived home at 1am.) Then I did another conference call with the big boss, got the offer by DHL and waited till my work visa came through. Then they flew me over to start work.

brat, yep it is practical that you fly here once the work visa is already approved, since technically you cannot work without it anyway.

Honestly though I'm not particularly fond of Singlish, my experience working with SG colleagues is that their English is actually quite good, particularly the grammar...

Singlish is infectious, I sometimes find myself speaking in the same manner as my SG colleagues without realizing it. Makes it easier for them to understand me too. I do have colleagues with perfect grammar though. Their English is quite good.

i share the same experience as freeier. they have never seen me either. just 1 phone call to find out more about me from future superior, an email, a call from HR with offer, followed by a contract. Pretty simple actually. The hardest part is really the visa wait. I'm dying to go to HK! But i guess, this is best, gives me time to freelance for a bit

The fault does not always lie with the Immigration Dept. My previous employer sat on the paperwork for two months until I called to ask if he has heard from the Immigration Dept. He lied to me that it has been submitted weeks ago and blamed the Dept for being inefficient. I later found out from the secretary that the documents were submitted three weeks prior to my arrival. The approval came on the same day when I flew in. So in reality, it only took the Immigration Dept three weeks to approve the visa.
