well, teach the kids not to scream too loud into their mobile phones in buses as well ok.. 8-P

anyway, serious talks, i don't think u are allowed to work without having your visa validated. get the school or the immigration to dhl the visa sticker to u, pay for it its not much. if the school is helping u in that it shld not be an issue. then u can get to use the 'HK resident' queue when u enter hk instead of the very long foreign passport one.

i don't know if my experience counts as I'm still waiting for my work visa to be approved but i was offered the job from my own country and have yet to go to Hong Kong. Everything was done via the internet and some conference calls. Had the company not been an established one, i might've considered it dodgy. hehe But HR has been quite efficient so far and very tolerant of all my follow-ups. They prefer for me to fly over once my papers are already approved. I agree with this too, to simplify matters.

i was interviewed all through phone, offered the job, contract sent to me, signed and returned, quit my job, etc.etc.. without having seen any one of my bosses/colleagues.

and worst, i have never even travelled to hk...

My colleagues did the same. It was HR who advised me to do so. I didn't enter HK with work permit.
