| i hope my friend can get an offer before coming here, but it sounds more difficult. He sent his cv to some companies but it didn't work, and we don't really have the network. so, how the chamber of commerce works? |

let's just say there are less hurdles compared to hk. definitely the best advice is to stay in your job and only quit and move to hk if you have already nabbed that job. however, it becomes even more difficult when you;re not in the country to interview if need be. |

yes you have to introduce yourself to these people and you have to pimp yourself out but these things have to be done. |

| Only parents in the world will help you out without reciprocation. Networking only works, when you have genuine skills that are beneficial to companies. Be more realistic. Try to figure out whether your skillsets are demanded in HK. HK is a place that has no mercy, 8 millions people in this tiny space to compete with you. | One of my friends gives $5000 every month to a guy who refers my friend to an interview after he gets a job. Of course, you can say it is a shady deal, kickback, commission, corruption... whatever you name it. It is how the world works. Last edited by tt2003; 15-06-2006 at 12:30 PM. |

I jobhunted based on the collect and select principle, not selecting from the start (yeah there's some soft-selection, but I tried to broaden my possibilities, and didn't talk money until i had that offer sheet on my table) I heard on previous posts before that people actually ask how much compensation is upfront. I personally don't believe in that. I wouldnt go about asking how much they're paying me if I don't have other options anyway. Once you have all the options on YOUR table, that's the only time to bargain. |
