Costs of items such as computer & video games in HK?

How much do *non pirated* computer and video games cost in Hong Kong compared to the states?

In the states most new games cost around $49.99 (HK$388.44), are they pretty much at that same exact price or slightly higher?

I am just trying to get the feel of how much entertainment costs there compared to the states. I'm hoping it's pretty much the same

why would you buy "non-pirated" while in the east? seems kind of non-sensical

the pirated ones are just as good...and soooo much better in price, especially if you get it in china rather than HK...

well, it depends on the launch date, etc. of the game as well as its platform. I know as far as X-box/PS2, I have NEVER paid more than HK$299 for an original sealed game. I have also bought a few at that price right after release as well, so I do not think it would be any higher than that.

computer games, that could be a whole different story, and one I have no idea about...

Well usaly its cheaper i think, and some stores sell "internet cafe bulk licenses" ie you have to enter a confirmation code on a website, to get a key. The boxes usaly look a bit homemade but they do work. And they cost like 50-60HKD.
I bought HL2 for 68HKD when it was just a few weeks old. works great.

Matt:
Well i buy PC games to play online...YEAH! you know you can do that with a genuine key! hehehhe
And yeah i know there are cracked servers for most new games....but i also know they usaly have a 300+ ping so how fun is that?

What is the ping on the servers you guys play and what games do you play?

If there is an interest, I'd be more than happy to setup a real dedicated server so we can all game with LAN like pings.

cerberus is an unknown quantity at this point.
ping? HK's not a good place for online gaming coz it's very localized, everyone seems to be playing those asia-specific titles, not int'l releases, save maybe for WOW.
anyway, my pings are generally around 200-300 for US servers, local are about 70-80.

Except for Counter-Strike and Medal of Honor which have numerous local servers.

What games do you play that have a 200-300 ping? Is it actually playable?

Do you think there is enough interest in geo-expat where I can setup a localized server of popular games in the states that aren't so popular in HK? (Quake 4, Unreal Tournament 2004, etc)
