Anyone with electrical knowhow?

Hi all,

I just bought some track lighting from a store, and bought 4 of those halogen spots with built-in transformers..in other words, each light fixture has a transofrmer built in -- there isn't one transofrmer in the track for all the light heads.

I was told by the guy at the store that I couldn't use a dimmer with those kind of lights, which I found surprising. Is that true? Or can I only use a dimmer with lights (halogen or incandescent) that don't have transofrmers built in?
