Moving To HK: Will my items be inspected?

Hello!

I will be moving to HK in a few weeks from the US. A moving company will be packing and moving my personal belongings, including 2 PCs.

Here are my questions:

1) Will my belongings be inspected upon arrival to HK from US?

2) Will my collection of 'personal copy' dvds be questioned by HK customs?

Thanks for any advice!!!

I don't think anyone can give you a definative answer to your question. Most of us own things that would be embarassing if discovered. If you have a hoarde of personal dvds then perhaps you should reduce it or post it separately or copy it to hard disc. I've shipped personal items to HK and not had a problem but then I didn't have that much 'personal' to worry about. In summary, there is no rule as to whose shipment from whatever country will be checked. It's pot luck.

i don't think HK censors anything. so why would they care about your dvd unless the dvd contains child p*rn*.

they are more concern with you skipping maybe cigarette or alcohol tax.

HK Customs and Excise will fine you if you bring 'personal dvds' across the Shenzhen border.

Janetw will become famous soon enough
when we were having things packed from the UK the shippers told us that they had never had anything picked through as apart from Alcohol and cigarettes which have high tax who would want to smuggle anything else here... it is all available somewhere!!!

Thanks for the replies.

I apologize for not being more descriptive I meant i have a large collection of copied dvds on dvrs, (regular movies) and definitely no illegal pornography.

Great suggestion of perhaps copying them to disk as isos!

Do you think it would be safe to put a movie behind a music cd in its original jewel case?

I will be coming from the US headed to midlevels HK but i don't know the specific port of entry into HK.

I suggest you to label all the disc as documents (pretend) and put it in "formal CD folder"

is it's not pron, nothing else, but remind you no child pron please.....

actually, not a big deal for self-use pirate copies in Hong Kong
but criminal for business use.
