What grades will my kids be in?

OK, what does primiary and secondary schools mean? I am use to the elementary, middle and high school language from the US. I have a 2nd grader, 6th grader and 9th grader. What grades will they be in in Hong Kong and primary or secondary?

Primary school is the same as elementary school. So your 2nd grader and 6th grader would be in Primary 2 an Primary 6. Secondary school is middle and high school. They for from Form 1 through Form 6. 9th grader would be in Form 3 of secondary school. 7th grade = Form 1, 8th grade = Form 2, etc up to senior year in high school would be Form 6. Are you considering a local school for your kids?

Thanks for educating me. Right now we are in negotiations about moving there. I feel like a fish out of water. I have been reading this site about schools. Seems like a lot of opinions about the international vrs. the other schools. Don't really know what all this means yet. School has always been our number 1 priority as we have moved around alot in the states. I just don't know if I can move my 9th grader. Do you have kids in school there? When does the school year start and end?

I don't have kids but I grew up in HK and finished high school, college and grad school in the U.S. My understanding is that the US schools, particluarly Hong Kong International School (HKIS) has a very long waiting list. I'm not sure if your employer have debentures that can help your kids get in. I went to the U.S. when I was entering my junior year of high school. It was tough but looking back it was so rewarding. 9th grade isn't such a bad time to move but 10th or 11th will possibly be. How does your 9th grader feel about it? Is he/she an adventurous type? School year starts around the same time as here (US), early Sept to July for local schools and I think early Sept to June for international schools.
