I studied abroad last fall at HKU. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. HKU is the only university on HK Island, so you will be closer to all the action if you go there. Its about a 15 minute bus ride to the downtown area. I cant really say anything about the other universities, as I have never been there, but from what I hear, HKU has the best school spirit. I lived in a dorm on campus, and it had a strong family feel, strong community, lots of activities, etc. HKU is rated the 3rd best university in Asia according to one newsletter that I read, so, it has a lot of prestige. English is spoken in the classroom, but most certainly not out of it. All of the school clubs operate in Cantonese, which gave me some difficulty communicating in that setting, but helped me to learn another language better. If I were you, I would definately choose HKU. I believe it has the most diverse student body, but I am not sure. There were over 100 other exchange students last fall, and the exchange students also form a big family with each other. The HKU exchange office holds lots of events for you, such as banquets, dinners, outings to islands, mentorship programme, etc. Such a great experience. If you have any more questions just email me.

1. The Chinese University of Hong Kong
2. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
3. The University of Hong Kong
I am a sociology and economics double major, and I was wondering if anyone had any information on any of these universities. Which one is best overall? Most prestigious? And for someone of my major? Best location? Most diverse student body? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have some chinese background; I am fluent in Cantonese, and almost fluent in Mandarin, but I am not proficient in writing.
Thanks. |
