wow that would take u forever! lol...estimate 45 mins from lamma to hk island....then the MTR n kcr would take u another 30 maybe...so u'd be looking at an hour n 15 mins. quite a while if you ask me...

thanks...don't mind the commuting time so much - just worried that i might not be able to make it to work on time on the earliest ferry!

But don't work too late. The ferry is not for 24 hours. Of course, the living environment in Lamma Island is quite good.

The travel time from lamma is not 45 minutes, it is 25 minutes on a fast ferry and 35 minutes on a slow ferry (it just seems like 45 minutes sometimes!).
There are no cars on Lamma so your travel time on that end varies on where you live and whether you ride a bike. For me it's a 2 minute walk.
From the ferry pier in Central it is a 4-5 minute walk to the MTR station, once there I guess it takes 20 minutes to Kowloon Tong (not sure, never done it). I have a friend who used to do the the exact same commute and seem to remember her saying it was around an hour.
The first ferry (slow) leaves Lamma at 6.20am and the last ferry leaves central at 12.30am. After that it's a sampan from Aberdeen!

The best way to decide on this one is to get to Lamma and actually time how long the trip takes you in the morning when you're supposed to be getting to work.
