PDLM,
Its their common practice and mainly towards Southeast asians.. You know very well why!!! .. As if return ticket is an authentic proof that the person is not going to overstay..

Nivantj,

I hear what you say, but my girlfriend is a Filipina who very regularly goes in and out of HK on 14 day visitor visas, and she has never been asked to show a return ticket either.

(She does though now have a HKIA Frequent Visitor Pass ( http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/aguide/fvc.html ), which makes the whole airport process so much easier - she is normally through immigration long before me when we arrive together.)

Thats probably becoz they know she is your girlfriend..
Actually, i have heard this happening mostly with first time visitors who have absolutely no clue where to go and what to answer..

hi hi

it's true,
I am Malaysian Chinese,
they ask me before for the return ticket when i enter.
But I was very calm and told them that I don't have it.and told them I plan to travel other place and back to my country.
and I told them I have bank account here and money with me.
then they let me go without doing any special chop or sign on my passport.
tips for southeast asian( as long as u are not white).
dun get panic.be calm. u just need to act like u are rich enough to stay in hk although u are really not. show ur confident.
