Moving to Hong Kong Shortly

Hiya,

Hey there I will be moving to Hong Kong shortly and there are a few things that I would like to consider before hand any help is apreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I should be moving to Hong Kong by the middle of march, the companay I will be working for, will provide me with accomodation for the first two weeks after my arrival.

Do you think that two weeks is enough time to find a suitable flat? or what are the other options considering that from then on I will be responsible of my own accomodation? Do you think I can arrange it form the UK ????

secondly how many months of rent should I expect to pay in advance when renting a flat and how much of deposit? I am looking for a small flat or studio, between HK$5-7k, preferebly in Kowloon. Do you think this is posible or what would be another alternative?

How much money do you think I would need to survive (myself only) for the first month , considering as main expenses food and transportation and general living expenses?

thanks a lot,

Sal

should be enought time to search although the contract and such usually takes a little longer - I would say more like 4 weeks is realistic. Money = depending on your taste I reckon 300-500 Dollars per day - if you are eating out all the time- Less if you are not - unless you like the really dingy places where you can get a meal for 20-30 dollars - usually edible and tasty.

Up to 7k for an apartment - not enough if you expect Western standard

appartment

upto 7 k for an apprtment not enough<-- not true..--> ..in kowloon , near hunghom or laguna city, you can get a decent 700 sq feet condo, with full facilities, pool gym, tennis squash, sometimes even jacuzzi and billiards room..now if thats not a good enough standard, i don't know what might be..also if you are willing to take a short ferry ride..in North Point you can get slightly older but a bit bigger apprtments for the same price..and there was one apprtment which even had a great balcony!!..go to

all the info u need is there..
