Hi Everyone, It would be great if someone could give me some advice. I would like to bring my Plasam Pioneer PDP-436HD from Tokyo to HK but, the signal in HK is PAL and Japan is NTSC. Now I was wondering if there is a work around like getting a multisystem DVD player or VCR and putting that between the cable and the TV? I would hate to sell it here at a real big loss....it's only 6 months old. Also if anyone knows if I can buy the PAL tuner for the TV in HK...that might solve the problem. HK Pioneer says they don't sell the tuner separate from the TV Thanks, pc

Is your TV definately not multi system? Most modern plasmas etc (from my experience) are. You can buy a convertor box so I understand but I have never gone down this route myself.

You'll need a power converter too. Isnt japan at 110V?

I wrote this reply, when someone was wondering if they could bring their LCD TV to USA from Hong Kong: "The TV itself need not be multisystem; only the tuner does. In many cases, the tuner can be replaced. Read the back to see what input voltage it requires. Most of them are multi voltage (110-240v) so you should be OK. Most likely, you will be able to use the TV, but not with regular from the wall cable. I'm sure this is fine though, because your TV's capabilities are far beyond wall cable. Get HDTV via satellite or digital cable, both of which require an external tuner, so will bypass your PAL tuner. Hope that makes sense They still didn't get it, so I wrote: "As I've said, ALL LCD TV's support NTSC and PAL resolutions. It's the tuner in them that you need to be worried about. But if you're using an external tuner (as you very well should be if you have a good TV) then it's irrelevant anyway." So it's the tuner you need to work out, after you've found out whether your TV accepts a 220V input (most LCD's do, not sure about Plasma) I really hope this helps you!

Hi Everyone! This is such a GREAT site, with so many friendly people! Hope I can meet some of you guys someday when I relocate in July. Yes it is true that my Plasma has a separate tuner that is connect via DVI cable. My friend in HK contacted Pioneer in HK to ask if they sold the Tuner separate but, unfortunately they don't... I am wondering if any private shops in HK would be willing to sell just the Tuner? Has anyone actually done what I am trying to do? Lowlight you mentioned someone was trying to do the reverse, HK--->US. Do you know how it worked out? I would hate to bring it and have it not work...and only be able to watch movies off it via my hacked X-box

How much do you need to write off for selling your TV in Japan? I wonder if it is justified after taking into account of the shipping cost. Anyway, I think some shops in Mongkok or Shamshuipo can help. But you better ask your HK friend to take your model to ask the shop one by one to make sure the thing.

If I sold it, I might have to take a hit of about $600 US. It is only about 6 months old... Maybe it's not that bad...it works out to about $100 a month...rather than have the headache of shipping it and wondering if it will work or not...

I'm facing the same problem but with Korean Plasma. The work around would be getting a multi system HDD recorder with built in tuner and connect it to your plasma via HDMI or DVI. I'm not sure if your panel is multi system so to be safe, the device must be able to output PAL/NTSC signal selectable.

Hi Earthman, Are you in HK now with the Korean Plasma? Have you tested the theory? It would be great to know someone has tried it and it was sucessful.
