Shouldn't the British be grateful being able to live in Hong Kong in such a safe city

Crime stat, mainly influence by these few factors:
  1. How high resident trust their local authority, determine whether they make a report or not.
  2. How smart the offender, not being caught.
  3. How hardworking the local authority was, to record the report and send it to their headquater for stat.
  4. How honest the authority HQ was, to release the real report stat.

Just to make you , after read a long defend own origin thread.

Crime happen anytime, anywhere, the different was who the unlucky guy.

I think most peoples interpretation of crime is when it involves public safety and violence, if you want to argue about that and say that HK does not have one of the lowest instance of violence related crimes, then go ahead.

Nobody cares if a few triads copy a few DVD's in the back of a dai pai dong somewhere, or if the mini bus drivers have to pay hung hing big bosses for their driving routes.

And a whole stack of other criminal activity, but its not the type that affects you when walking along a HK street at 4am, or in fact, at anytime.

Of course if you want trouble, I am sure you are most likely to find it in any expat pub, the Duke of York in Sai Kung, is a good one... You should try it out Erictby, see how you navigate your way through that most territorial of bars. The locals are not the ones to fear, its some of the expats on a tank full of piss... Especially when theres a premier league match on, passions fly high, and your chances of copping a broken nose increases amazingly if you happen to say something that insults the British expats in their bar. I have seen many a smart mouthed caucasian from other native English speaking nations get the poo beaten out of them, in some ways funny, some ways rather atomic, if not down right brutal...

Having a smart mouth in that bar, will induce a scene from the movie " The Green Street Elite".

Locals keep out of the affairs of Expats and Tourists, and funny enough, its been ingrained into the organised crime gangs for a long time, not to upset the tourist / expat situation, or feel the wraith of the HK Police, really getting in their face.

The HK Policing Crime Situation has one of the best lines of communication you could possibly have..

A perfect balance, and just for the record, if some Triad member kills another Triad member, its one less street crim the police have to keep an eye on. Most of the crime is within that little circle, if you don't associate in that circle, you have no problems.

Skyhook, I think I know more than your writing. Don't forget I told you before, in other thread, I am "well mixed" with local.

My pervious post not to defend any party, any country. Wholly kidding post, go through it again, you might get my real meaning.

Well not quite. The highest ranking expatriate British officer is at the third level (where the first level represents the Commissioner of Police). Then the fourth level has maybe three Brits. These four levels would represent the top level senior jobs of the HKP.

Hey disco,

You know what I meant, that there is still enough British influence in the HKPF to maintain things as they are. I for one think, that the HKPF is extremely good, we called them once, they were at our door in under 5 minutes, we were so amazed ! Compared to Australia, you'd be lucky if the Police arrive within 45 minutes. Also, when I have needed directions while driving in Mong Kok etc, the HKPF are always happy to assist.

In my opinion, they would have to be one of the best Police beat forces I have ever experienced globally.

Effective in preventing crime... ineffective in investigating and solving, unless there is a triad designated scape goat at the other end.

I dunno - they nailed the woman who rolled her husband up in a carpet. But frankly if they couldn't have managed that I'm not sure what they could do.

Did they solve the case of the woman whose corpse showed up in a restricted area in the immigration (?) or revenue tower?

Atleast a couple of our friend whose apartments got burgled the response was pretty much "nothing we can do...." (neither were gwailo types .. which might explain their cant be bothered attitude).

I'd also like to see if they can nail who is really and I mean *really* responsible for the recent spate of vandalism against the new world group.
