I think the message from Reporter was a windup email, I would just ignore it.

Laughing_Monkey, I am quite surprised you were reacting so badly and so uncool. I read through the message again and again, I think it was trying to misleading people, but nothing really personal. So why were you so angry?

I am not being racist, but a lot of English people can be quite judgemental and opinionated too AND having a good laugh by insulting people as you guys call it as sense of humours. The email nothing worse than the way you would normal insult ‘Non-English’ people. – so don’t see why u should be angry.

E,g.
1. Welsh people are sheep shaggers
2, Chinese people = Chinky, sweet and sour
3. Indian/ Pakistani = Paki
4. German women are hairy
5. American are thick
6. Over 3 millions people live on leaking boats in Hong Kong
7. Chinese people can only do take away, asian people can only do corner shops
8. a lot a lot more racist jokes about each nation, Eastern European, OZ, Black, whoever non english then you would like to insult them

Can’t we all be nice
Actually you'll find the majority of those points are not seen as having a laugh by most decent English people, chinky, paki and black are certainly not things people joke about (yes, of course some will but then they are racist idiots and not the sort of people I'd associate with back home, but every country has it's fair share of racists and that's a whole other discussion...). The americans all being thick is one most people with a brain don't joke about either, it wouldn't be the richest country on earth if all the people there were dumbies would it, and certainly the thing about HK people all living on leaking boats is not something I've ever heard before, I've venture a guess that most people think of the skyscrapers and the mountain when they think of HK and not poor people in boats.
You've got me on the welsh thing though

I appreciate the entertainment, courtesy of you, the BBC or whatever. But I think you're an insurance salesman. LOL.

The UK definately has its share of dangerous places e.g. trains, subways, roads, schools and bus stops.
Theres people here in Scotland who get killed just because they are waiting for a bus. Recently one young boy was beaten to death waiting for one such bus, he was approached by a drunken youth of 15 who asked what the boy was looking at. Even though the unfortunate young man was minding his own business and didn't reply, he was beaten to a pulp and died of his injuries. This happens here all the time. It only makes front page news when the papers have nothing else to report.

For a civilised and prosperous country, we certainly have our share of nutcases. I have been to east asia many times, Singapore, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan. I can't once remember having met anyone rude never mind aggresive. Oh sorry I did bump into a couple of rowdy Englishmen looking for a fight.

No way. US crime rates, although high compared to Hong Kong, are lower than in the UK according to a United Nations survey:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...01/ixhome.html

"According to the comparison of international crime statistics produced by the UN's Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention, England and Wales had 9,766 crimes for every 100,000 people in the year 2000. America had 8,517, South Africa 7,997, Germany 7,621 and Russia 2,022."

That being said, countries in Asia definitely puts all Western "civilized" countries to shame when it comes to crime and violence.

There are so many things hidden in those statistics it's difficult to know where to start... For a start that is "convicted (or maybe reported) crimes" so Russia (which is the most horrendously corrupt, violent and alcoholic society I have ever lived in) would be way ahead of all the others if you could measure crimes committed rather than reported or convicted. These figures are measuring the efficiency of the police, the propensity of the poulace to report crimes and a whole heap of other things mixed in with the underlying crime rate.

To measure what I think you are trying to measure you also need to extract "victimless" crimes - a lot of "crimes" in the UK are for possession of class B or C durgs (e.g. cannabis, ecstacy,...).

If you measure murder rates both South Africa and the US are WAY ahead of the UK. I'm pretty sure that's also true if you measure all violent crimes.

Do Asian countries have what we know as a "yob culture"? I bet they don't. This is all due to a breakdown of respect and a change in culture. I would definately trade some obscure human rights laws for a return to law and order in the UK.
