| | Moving the UN to Hong Kong I respectfully suggest that the orderly relocation of the Headquarters of The United Nations from New York City to Hong Kong would be a very good thing. | |

| | | Good for HK Economy - Jobs One benefit will be a better long term prospect, economically, as HK evolves from a financial center to a geopolitical one. No, I am not employed by The U.N., but I strongly support their goals. | |

No thanks. | |

| | | Parking Tickets I respectfully dissagree. The annual U.N. budget exeeds $6 billion U.S., a good part of which is spent in NYC. Add to that the spending of member countries. | |

| | | And the cost of the movers bill? Would Jim Thompson give UN diplomats a discount?
Seriously though, do you think HK could handle about 100,000 people moving here? What about the language, education for kids, access to media?
The US has not paid UN bills for the longest time (I think they did make a settlement payment in December... not too sure) and I doubt they'd pay their bills to 'red-china'.
At this point, HK is far better off looking inward and figure out where its future lies (no sir, its not Disney, its not logistics, it might be in services) and then work on a 5-10 year plan to make the future happen.
What would your blueprint for making the UN move here look like? (Other than getting a Chinese national into the Sec Gen seat).

| | | Simple Have Beijing and London co-sponsor a Security Council joint resolution.
The U.N. has many friends. Financing will not be a problem.

The UK has far more pressing problems than move the UN.

| | | While we're in wishful mode, I suggest that UEFA moves all later-stage Champions League matches to Hong Kong stadium, Rio relocates its annual Carnival (scantily-clad babes and all) to the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui and Singapore transports the Newton Circus hawker center, laksa, stock and barrel, to Statue Square. | |
