I am an antique newbie looking for a mentor. One of my reasons for moving to Hong Kong was to acquire antique Asian furniture. I have been to many shops on Hollywood Road thinking at least I could see real antiques, instead even I could even identify some were not what was claimed. Machine saw marks on the bottom edge of a door etc. Reading about the level of fake furniture coming out of Asia I feel overwhelmed. Some appraisers are resorting to disassembling furniture to verify authenticity. The other issue for a newbie is valuation. I am hopeful there is a more experienced person on the forum willing to mentor a newbie.
