AN Interview <Analyst Programmer>

I would like to know how might be the interview in HK for IT position(Analyst Programmer)?
Will there be type of technical tests, or just table talks? What are interview processes normally will be?

I have 7 yrs experience working in HK. What are the advices to make this interview success as am switching my job from non-IT to IT. But I am qualified IT degree and have professional certificates too. Thats my value.

Thanks for your answers and suggestions in advance.

Cheers

dount any tests would be given but if you want a analyst/programmer job then your knowledge better be up to scratch.

Not trying to discourage but i wonder how a company is offering you that position since you have been working in non-IT for 7 yrs.. Too many APs with relevant experience are easily available in current market... That raises a question if the offer is thru some internal reference, if so, there may not be too many technial questions as they already know your background and might get away with that.. Otherwise, i believe you would have hard time convincing them how could you serve them without relevant hands-on experience... In IT, and for that reason in any tech field, out of touch means out of market, i believe....
In any case prepare for technial questions on the language/ platform you are going to work on....
Good luck

Since u don't have concrete working experience in IT, be prepared to start over again (maybe start with a lower salary and junior position compared to ur 7-yr non-IT job).

Usually the interview will discuss ur past IT experience and platform/programming language knowledge and some technical questions. I think in ur case u need to convince them why u make such a career change.

Take the first 1-2 interview as practices, u will have more confidence in the future ones.

Good luck!

My interview didn't involve a formal technical test with a list of questions I had to answer, but I was asked many technical questions over the course of the interview along with other questions. It will all depend on the company, some companies might make you take a written test and others might not, in the past when I have interviewed people for technical jobs we always had a set list of technical questions that were relevant to the job and we gave marks for each answer, if someone got below 70% then we didn't ask them back as the job required good technical knowledge. This was done in London and Tokyo though, but I'm certain the company does similar for HK. But there will be other companies that don't I'm sure.

Personally, if an interviewee for a technical job was worried about taking a technical test (unless they are an entry level person who will require training) I'd be suspicious and think a little embelishment of CV might have happened, it certainly happened in Tokyo and we had a few people who didn't really have a clue about the skills we needed. If you're going for an entry level position which I guess you must be if you've never worked in IT before then they'll probably be more interested in your ambitions and just your general attitude and education. I guess it's possible they might make your take aptitude tests at the first level though, but they are usually pretty easy

Edit: If you have got this interview through a recruitment agent, then haven't they told you what to expect in the interview? A good recruitment agent should be asking their client what the interview involves so their candidate can prepare better

Thanks for your valuable reply JhonnyC.

The interview is NOT arrange by agent. It is arranged by a Employer. I have received call from HR. In the job's requirements they mentioned lot of technical skills. But I should have few of them. Can you give me suggestions how to make this SUCCESS.

I will have an interview on Monday.

Thanks again.
